Annual Winter Lecture to focus on theme of myths and dreams

Alzheimer Scotland announces details of the annual Winter Lecture for 2018, which will be on 10 December 2018 in Glasgow and will focus on the theme of myths and dreams. Professor Karen Ritchie, Research Director, French Institute of Medical Research (INSERM) will explore the assumptions made about Alzheimer’s Disease in the twentieth century, as well as how these assumptions are being re-framed in the modern day. The event will also take a close look at what we can learn from the past and where we hope to see dementia research going in the future.

Understanding gender in the early years and primary years

Children in Scotland will hold an event in Edinburgh on 5 December 2018 on ‘Understanding gender in the early years and primary years: practical implications’. Drawing on doctoral research, which explored primary school children’s knowledge and understanding of toys and gender in playwork settings, this training workshop will discuss some of the initial findings and explore the practical implications for practitioners. By the end of the session participants will have: • considered different understandings and constructions of gender • explored some of the emerging findings from research • looked at how the findings could impact on practice
