Supporting and Empowering Scotland's Citizens: National Action Plan for Technology Enabled Care

The Scottish Government has published a National Action Plan for Technology Enabled Care which aims to support more people to live longer healthier lives at home or in community settings. The plan, entitled ‘Supporting & Empowering Scotland's Citizens: National Action Plan for Technology Enabled Care’ sets out 22 actions which include working with the Care Inspectorate to ensure that the new national Care standards take into account the increasing contribution of technology in the delivery of safe and effective care

Loose Parts Play toolkit

The Scottish Government, in partnership with Inspiring Scotland, has published the Loose Parts Play Toolkit. A loose part is the term given to natural resources and, more generally, random found objects, although the possible list of loose parts is inexhaustible. The resource aims to raise awareness of the value of loose parts to children’s play and to provide practical guidance about this play to those who work with children and young people of all ages.

Advice Note - Prioritisation Process

Social work in Scotland

A new report by the Accounts Commission which looks at the delivery of social work services in Scotland has been published. The report makes a series of recommendations which include carrying out a detailed analysis of demographic change and the contribution preventative approaches can make to reduce demand for services and working more closely with local communities to build their capacity so they can better support local people who may be at risk of needing to use services.

Enhancing learning and teaching through the use of digital technology

The Scottish Government has published a national strategy that aims to ensure all learners and educations are able to benefit from digital technology in their education. The strategy, which relates to learners aged 3-18, sets out an approach to deliver the increased effective use of this technology in education and is structured around four key areas: the skills of educators; access to technology; curriculum and assessment; and leadership.

SIGN 145 Assessment, diagnosis and interventions for autism spectrum disorders

The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) have published guidelines on the assessment, diagnosis and interventions for autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The guideline provides recommendations based on the assessment, diagnosis and interventions for children, young people, adults and older adults with ASD. The guide also includes screening and surveillance, diagnosis and assessment, clinical interventions and service provision, recommendations for further research, and a checklist for information provision for patients.

The Role of the Chief Social Work Officer

Process evaluation new orleans intervention model infant mental health glasgow

The NSPCC has published a report which investigates the trial of two new services for infants and children who come into the care of Glasgow City Council because of maltreatment. The services, Glasgow Infant Family Team (GIFT) (which delivers the New Orleans Intervention Model of assessment and intervention) and the Family Assessment and Contact Team (FACS), help professionals and judges decide whether young children should return to their birth families or have a permanent alternative, such as adoption.
