Guidance to support delivery of the Living Wage Commitment to Care at Home and Housing Support

Beating Cancer - Ambition and Action

A new strategy on cancer care in Scotland entitled ‘Beating Cancer: Ambition and Action’ has been published by the Scottish Government. The strategy contains more than fifty actions, including £3.5 million to drive improvements across the palliative care sector and to support targeted action on training and education. The strategy also notes the need for greater co-operation across health and social care services to ensure every individual should know about their treatment and have the information needed to help put them in control of their own care.

The Vision and Strategy for Social Services in Scotland: A one-year-on progress report

The Scottish Government has published a one-year progress report on the Vision and Strategy for Social Services in Scotland. The report looks at key issues such as Supporting the Workforce, Understanding Service Quality and Performance, Improving Use of Evidence and Promoting Public Understanding. The report outlines actions in the strategy which include the development of a summary of qualitative evidence from Chief Social Work Officer Annual Reports, Care Inspectorate information and SSSC workforce data.

Special educational needs and their links to poverty

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published a report exploring the links between special educational needs and disability (SEND) and poverty. The report argues that poverty is both a cause and effect of SEND and makes a series of recommendations, including a call for SEND to be a priority in schools and early years and for staff in settings to be trained to identify needs.

No Through Road: People with learning disabilities in hospital

The Mental Welfare Commission has published a report which looks at the number of people with learning disabilities who are awaiting discharge in hospital. They found that almost a third of patients in learning disability units in Scotland's hospitals have been identified as ready for discharge, but are not discharged for months or years.

Rights for Life: A Declaraction of Rights for Mental Health in Scotland

The Scottish Recovery Network (SRN), See Me and Voice of Experience (VOX) has collaborated to set out a declaration of rights demanding people are able to participate in decisions affecting their care. Nineteen rights are set out which the mental health charities believe are often denied to people with mental health problems.
