National Infection Prevention and Control Manuals
The evidence based National Infection Prevention and Control (NIP&C) Manual for Scotland is intended to be used by all those involved in care provision. The manual currently contains information on Standard Infection Control Precautions (SICPs), Chapter 1 and Transmission Based Precautions (TBPs), Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 Healthcare Infection incidents, outbreaks and data exceedance.
It is mandatory for NHSScotland: In all other care settings to support health and social care integration, the content of this manual is considered best practice.
You can download the manual here.
An addendum providing COVID-19 specific infection and prevention control (IPC) guidance for care home staff and providers can be found here.
The first National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) was published in January 2012, and is best practice in many health and social care settings.
In May 2021 a new Manual was published to provide context specific guidance in adult and older people’s care homes. The new Manual: Care Home Infection Prevention and Control Manual (CH IPCM) was co-produced with national and local stakeholders. The content of the CH IPCM is completely aligned to the evidence based NIPCM and is intended to be used by all those involved in care home provision.
